We are looking for an experienced and forward-thinking Insurance Manager to lead our Insurance Service and play a pivotal role in protecting the Council's financial resilience through effective insurance, claims and risk financing arrangements. This is a fantastic opportunity for an insurance professional who is ready to influence strategic decision-making, lead a specialist team and work across a diverse organisation where no two days are the same. The Role As the Council's lead insurance specialist, you will be responsible for the strategic management of the Council's insurance programme, self-insurance arrangements and claims portfolio. Working closely with senior leaders across the organisation, you will provide expert advice on insurance and insurable risk, ensuring that robust and cost-effective arrangements are in place to protect the Council's people, assets, services and reputation. You will lead the procurement and management of insurance contracts, oversee complex and sensitive claims, manage relationships with insurers and brokers, and drive continuous improvement across the service. We are looking for someone who can combine technical expertise with strategic thinking and strong leadership skills. You will have:
- Significant experience in insurance and claims management within a complex organisation.
- Extensive knowledge of local authority insurance arrangements, liability claims and risk financing principles.
- Experience of managing insurer, broker and contractor relationships.
- A strong understanding of insurance procurement, contract management and governance requirements.
- The ability to interpret complex information and provide clear, practical advice to senior managers and stakeholders.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills.
- Experience of leading, developing and motivating a professional team.
- A commitment to delivering excellent customer service and continuous improvement.
