Full Job Description

Are you passionate about artificial intelligence, machine learning, and programming? We're seeking an Innovation Developer to join our dynamic Innovation Team, where you'll use Python to build AI-driven solutions and prototype transformative technologies. If you're excited about coding, collaborating, and learning in a high-tech environment, this is your chance to launch a rewarding career in AI and ML. What You'll Do:

  • Write clean, efficient code in Python with libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, or Scikit-learn to build and test ML models and prototypes, leveraging Linux environments. Able to expand programming expertise to other languages such as C++ and Java.
  • Collaborate with engineering, application, and customer support teams to apply AI insights to real-world applications.
  • Contribute to our AI-powered product roadmap by supporting the development of cutting-edge solutions.
  • Engage with customers and teammates to understand AI project needs, with occasional opportunities for international travel.

A degree in Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related field (computer science, data science, or ML skills advantageous).
  • Alternatively, skills equivalent to a mid-level computer scientist (e.g., strong object-oriented programming, testing, and data management) or a junior AI/ML engineer (e.g., basic AI/ML capabilities with mentoring).
  • Proficiency in at least one of Python, C++, Fortran, Julia, or Java, with familiarity with Linux; experience with AI/ML libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn) or simulation methods is a plus. A curious, problem-solving mindset with enthusiasm for learning AI, ML, and semiconductor technologies.
  • Good communication skills to work with technical and non-technical teams.
  • Passion for innovation, resilience, and a proactive approach to exploring new ideas.

You'll join our vibrant Innovation Group, a diverse team of technologists, engineers, and scientists working together to push the frontiers of technology. Our group drives cutting-edge advancements in additive manufacturing, plasma simulations, and AI-driven solutions, using Python to develop transformative technologies for semiconductor applications. Our team thrives on shared learning, open communication, and mentorship, creating a welcoming environment where your contributions are valued, and your AI skills can grow.
  • At Oxford Instruments Plasma Technology, we're pioneers in high-technology tools and systems, delivering etch and deposition solutions for semiconductors used in medical devices, quantum computers, and more. Based in our modern facility in Bristol, we foster a culture of innovation and collaboration, empowering our people to push technological boundaries. With over 40 years of expertise, we offer a supportive environment for career growth, where your creativity and ideas can make a global impact. Why Join Us?
  • Work on AI and ML projects that power industries like healthcare, automotive, and quantum computing.
  • Join an Innovation-focused team that fosters learning, mentorship, and career growth.
  • Thrive in a collaborative, inclusive workplace with opportunities for international projects and professional development.
  • Be part of a global leader in plasma technology, based in a state-of-the-art Bristol facility.

In addition to a competitive starting salary, Oxford Instruments also offers structured career development opportunities, an excellent work-life balance, private healthcare, a share incentive plan, 25 days annual leave, half-days on Fridays, a defined contribution Group Personal Pension Plan, the convenience of our on-site canteen, where you can enjoy fresh, hot meals prepared daily with a varied menu and delicious options to choose from all at subsidised prices, and a flexible benefits package that you can tailor to your requirements.
