Full Job Description

This Infrastructure Support - Smart Meter position will report to the Smart Meter Manager and will work within the Strategy, Regulation and Support Services directorate based in either our Ipswich, Crawley or London office. You will be a permanent employee., As an Infrastructure Support, specialising in the Smart Meter area, you will be working closely with teams from across IS (including Architecture), Control Systems & Automation and external vendors to manage and support the Smart Meter Infrastructure ensuring that it is operating correctly and delivering the designed capabilities. Dimensions:

  • People - work within a team of circa 3-5 members of the Smart Meter Team, but no direct line management responsibilities
  • Financial - no direct budget responsibility
  • Communication - communicate and work with all teams and partners internal or external to UK Power Networks. Good verbal, written and presentational skills required to express risks and potential possible effects to the business based on infrastructure requirements
  • Stakeholders - regular and ongoing interaction with senior management across IT, IS and the business.
  • Principal accountabilities: The Infrastructure Support for Smart Meter Systems will take primary responsibility for running processes that are critical to the health and maintenance of the Smart Meter Systems within UK Power Networks, specifically:
  • Delivery of changes, upgrades and ongoing maintenance to ensure good health and operation of all parts of the Smart Meter System including:
  • Azure Application Services
  • Gamma Router
  • DCC physical and virtual Gateway connections
  • Database storage volumes
  • SQL Database storage
  • Azure Databricks storage
  • HSM (including code changes/upgrades)
  • Siemens EnergyIP
  • Data cleansing operations
  • Database backup and retention policy implementation
  • Oracle databases

    Experience with large data migration and complex infrastructure projects
  • Certification in Azure development
  • Experience with MDMS solutions
  • Knowledge of the Smart Energy Code and its impact on Network Operators

    You will require management of the Smart Meter System as its availability and suitability are important to the realisation of benefits to UK Power Networks from utilising Smart Meter Communications and Data.
  • You will have knowledge of Meter Data Management Systems (MDMS) and their integrations to middleware software and endpoints. The role holder will have knowledge of the Smart Energy Code (SEC) and its possible effects to configuring Smart Meter and MDMS solutions. You will have knowledge of the Data Communications Company (DCC) and its infrastructure that facilitates the Smart Meter Network, this will include knowledge of DCC adaptors, gamma routers and secure gateway connections.

    You will attract a salary of £50,000.00 and a bonus of 7.5%. This role can also offer blended working after probationary period (6 months) - 3 days in the office and 2 remote. Close Date: 05/05/2026 We also provide the following additional benefits
