Full Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for full or part time Infection Prevention Support Assistant to join our Infection Prevention Team. The role will be based at the County Hospital in Hereford but some travel will be involved as your work will involve all sites and premises associated with the trust. You will be part of a dynamic, supportive and innovative team of nurses and doctors that supports colleagues in the delivery of effective and safe patient care. Your responsibilities will include recording and collating audit data, undertaking FFP3 Fit mask testing on Trust staff and reporting adverse incidents relating to infection prevention in line with trust policy and You will be given appropriate training and support to enable you to undertake competency-based practices such as demonstrating and educating others on the correct donning and doffing processes for protective personal equipment, hand hygiene and decontamination of the environment. We are a very busy team with lots of demands placed on us. You will need to have good communication skills, be flexible, adaptable and able to prioritise your workload. The posts will cover a 7 day working week to ensure the Infection prevention team meet the needs of the service as outlined by Wye Valley NHS Trust.,

  • Undertake IPC surveillance and audit activities.
  • Record and collate the audit data and report adverse incidents in accordance with Trust policy.
  • Provide education / training and support to staff in the provision of caring and safe environment including:
  • - FFP3 mask Fit testing - Personal protective equipment - Decontamination of the environment and equipment - Hand hygiene Support the infection prevention specialist nurses in the investigation of outbreaks and incidents of infection to determine cause, associated risk factors and required intervention.
  • Maintain IPC databases
  • Act as a role model, following consistently high standards of IPC practice, especially with reference to hand hygiene, cleaning standards, dress code and the use of PPE.
