About the NEU
The National Education Union brings together over half a million educators across schools, colleges, local authorities, and multi-academy trusts in the UK. We champion organising at every level, building member agency, leading workplace and national campaigns, and winning improvements to working conditions. By building strong workplace organisation, we enable educators to turn their collective resources into the power needed to transform their working lives and shape an education system that works for all.
If you have a proven track record of building collective power, campaign planning, or organising in any union or sector with a commitment to social justice, read on.
About the Role
We are seeking Industrial Organisers to challenge neoliberal education policy and to tackle the crisis of workload, pay, and underfunding facing our schools and colleges. This is a unique opportunity to identify and mentor workplace activists, empowering members to drive meaningful change both in their daily working lives and across local authorities and multi-academy trusts.
We value the transferable skills, innovation, and campaign experience you will bring from across the wider trade union movement. As an Industrial Organiser, you'll lead on-the-ground organising projects that build collective power, support reps and activists, and deliver industrial campaigns. You'll work closely with members, reps, and branch officers to escalate and win disputes, negotiate with employers, and foster active, democratic union structures.
We are looking for people who have:
- Experience in union organising, campaign planning, and industrial negotiations (in any sector).
- A strong strategic vision aligned with building collective workplace power and escalating disputes.
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and speaking skills.
- The ability to coach, mentor, and develop activists and reps in the workplace.
- The ability to plan and deliver complex projects independently.
- Sector specific knowledge. This is welcome, but NOT essential - comprehensive induction and training on education structures will be fully provided.
- A commitment to trade union values, equality, diversity, and social justice.
- A willingness to travel extensively and work flexibly, including some evenings and weekends.
- A full UK driving licence.
In return we can offer you:
- Ambitious work that requires self-motivation, initiative, a strategic approach and a commitment to building collective agency and workplace power.
- Work that makes a difference day in, day out.
- Working with experienced colleagues in a campaigning, activist led, growing trade union.
- A starting salary of £58,983.
- An exceptional defined benefit pensions scheme.
- A company car.
- 35 days leave plus Christmas closure days.
- Access to a health plan and very good working policies, including hybrid working.
Further details can be downloaded from our website via the button below, where applicants will be able to complete an online application on our recruitment portal.
Closing date is mid-day Friday 28 August 2026. Please note shortlisted applicants will be required to provide a copy of their driving licence by email prior to interview.
