Full Job Description
We're looking for a Human Factors & Ergonomics Engineer to join our growing Control Systems team within Siemens Mobility's Rail Infrastructure business. Based out of one of our UK office locations (Chippenham, Derby or Birmingham) for 3 days a week with flexible working 2 days pers week. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a collaborative, forward-thinking team of Human Factors specialists operating across key UK locations. You'll be at the heat of major long-term programmes supporting the integration of human-centered design principles into the development and delivery of cutting-edge control system solutions that are transforming the UK rail network. Working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, the role contributes to Human Factors Integration activities across the system lifecycle. - Supporting the delivery of Human Factors work within live railway projects, ensuring that usability and human performance considerations are embedded into the system design and implementation.
- Supporting Human Factors Integration activities and contributing to HF management plans.
- Providing input to requirements capture with a focus on usability, workload, and human performance
- Working alongside systems, software, and safety engineers to contribute to design decisions.
- Supporting usability assessments and operator engagement activities.
- Contributing to testing and validation from a Human Factors perspective.
- Preparing Human Factors documentation such as reports, analyses, and supporting evidence.
- Contributing to verification and validation activities to ensure usability and performance are fully considered.
- Engagement with stakeholders is an important aspect of the role. The engineer will take part in workshops, design reviews, and discussions with project stakeholders, including clients and end users, helping to understand operational needs.
- Communicating Human Factors considerations in a clear and practical way
A degree in Ergonomics, Human Factors, Psychology, or a related discipline. - Registered member of the CIEHF, working towards, or interested in, professional accreditation (Chartership).
- Demonstrate a good understanding of Human Factors and ergonomics principles and their application to complex systems.
- Be comfortable working in multidisciplinary engineering teams and contributing across the systems engineering lifecycle, with a strong focus on understanding user needs.
- A structured and analytical approach is important, along with the ability to communicate effectively and adapt to project environments.
- Have an awareness of systems engineering lifecycle (requirements, design, verification, validation)
- Have strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Experience within railway systems or other safety-critical environments would be beneficial, along with exposure to safety assurance or usability-focused activities.
- Experience in usability testing or user engagement is desirable.
- The role will require travel within the UK and the ability to work within project delivery environments, supporting multidisciplinary engineering teams.
