Full Job Description

The School of Geography and the Environment is seeking an organised and proactive Human Resources Officer to join its friendly and supportive HR team. This permanent position offers an opportunity to contribute to the delivery of a professional, responsive and customer-focused HR service within a welcoming and collaborative academic department at the University of Oxford. Reporting to the HR Operations Manager, you will support the full employee lifecycle, providing advice and administrative support across recruitment, onboarding, employee records, payroll, immigration processes and HR compliance. You will work closely with colleagues and managers to ensure HR procedures are delivered accurately, efficiently and in accordance with University policies and employment legislation. The role involves managing HR systems and records, preparing employment contracts, coordinating induction activities, supporting visa and right-to-work processes, monitoring employee milestones and responding to routine HR enquiries. You will also contribute to improving HR processes, supporting team projects and maintaining high standards of confidentiality and customer service.

We are seeking a candidate with previous HR experience who holds, or is working towards, an HR qualification such as CIPD, or has equivalent experience. You will have a good understanding of UK employment legislation, excellent organisational and communication skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. Experience with HR systems such as PeopleXD or Teamseer, and immigration administration, would be advantageous.

The School operates a hybrid working approach, with a minimum expectation of three days per week in the office, including Tuesdays as the team's anchor day, subject to operational requirements. This is an opportunity to develop your HR expertise within a collaborative and supportive team, contributing to the effective delivery and continuous improvement of HR services across the School. Please note that this vacancy is open to internal applicants only. This post is offered on a full time and permanent basis. What We Offer As an employer, we genuinely care about our employees' well-being, and this is reflected in the range of benefits that we offer including:

  • An excellent contributory pension scheme
  • 38 days annual leave
  • A comprehensive range of childcare services
  • Family leave schemes
  • Cycle loan scheme
  • Discounted bus travel and Season Ticket travel loans.
