High sickness absence can place additional pressure on frontline teams, affect continuity of care and contribute to wider operational and financial challenges. To address this priority, the Group is establishing a dedicated Attendance Management Team focused on improving attendance, supporting staff wellbeing, strengthening management capability and reducing avoidable sickness absence. The service will work collaboratively with managers, Human Resources, Employee Relations, Occupational Health and staff-side representatives to promote a proactive and supportive approach. The HR Attendance Case Specialist will play a key role in delivering this service by managing complex sickness absence cases, supporting attendance improvement initiatives and helping managers build confidence and capability. This is an exciting opportunity to shape a new service, influence organisational culture and contribute directly to workforce wellbeing and performance. The role will be based at either St George's Hospital or Epsom and St Helier. Applicants should state their preferred location, as the applicable high-cost area allowance will be based on this choice.,

  • Manage sickness absence cases, ensuring timely progression, plans and accurate records. Provide specialist advice and procedural guidance to managers, attend review meetings, remove barriers and support the closure of long-standing case
  • Lead reviews of reasonable adjustments with managers and Occupational Health, ensuring arrangements are appropriate, proportionate and regularly reviewed. Support phased returns, alternative working arrangements, redeployment and ill-health retirement, providing clear guidance throughout.
  • Coach managers to manage absence effectively and compassionately, promote early intervention and deliver briefings, workshops and training. Develop practical toolkits, guidance and procedures, and help simplify processes through improved resources and digital solutions.
  • Analyse absence data, identify trends and risks, monitor performance against targets and report on case progress and outcomes. Escalate significant concerns to senior specialists.
  • Work with Employee Relations, HR Business Partners, Occupational Health, recruitment teams and operational leaders to provide consistent, joined-up case management.
  • Contribute to the Group Sickness Absence Improvement Programme, audits, service reviews and workforce transformation. Maintain confidentiality, comply with information governance requirements and use ESR and other workforce systems effectively. Support timely case resolution to improve workforce capacity and reduce reliance on temporary staffing., At gesh we are committed to supporting flexible working arrangements.
