Full Job Description

The Institute of Criminology is seeking a professional, efficient, and proactive Administrator (part-time, 29.2 hours per week, 0.8FTE) to provide a comprehensive HR service for the Institute. Acting as the primary point of contact for all internal HR and payroll enquiries, you will manage the employee lifecycle, coordinate recruitment campaigns, and handle monthly payroll administration. Additionally, you will take lead responsibility for coordinating the department's prestigious Visiting Scholars and Practitioners programmes.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a collaborative and supportive professional services team within a world-leading Institute. You will have a good general education (to at least A-level standard/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent practical experience) alongside relevant administrative experience. To excel in this role, you must be highly organised with a structured, systematic approach to managing accurate records and detailed, multi-layered administration. You will possess the confidence and capability to work autonomously, effectively prioritising your own workload to meet strict deadlines while exercising excellent judgment. Strong communication skills, high attention to detail, complete discretion, and proficiency in IT systems are also essential.

This role is largely office based but we offer the flexibility of some hybrid working (1 day per week) once the probation period is complete and would be willing to discuss this as part of the interview process. Benefits of working at University of Cambridge include:

  • Competitive rates of pay with automatic service-related pay progression and annual cost of living increases;
  • Generous annual leave allowance of 36 days paid leave inclusive of bank holidays for full time employees, pro rata'd for part time employees;
  • Generous maternity, adoption and shared parental leave entitlement and other family friendly schemes (e.g. workplace nurseries and salary exchange schemes for childcare);
  • An auto-enrolment pension scheme, with a generous employer contribution; Travel benefits and retail discounts at over 2,000 local and national stores.
  • Further information on the role, person specification, benefits, and much more can be found in the Further Particulars. In your application, please tell us how you meet the essential criteria for the role and what's motivating you to apply. Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment. Click the 'Apply' button below to register an account with our recruitment system (if you have not already) and apply online. Informal queries about the role can be directed to Meg Horobin ( ). Interviews are planned for week commencing 20th July 2026 (subject to confirmation)
