Housing Standards Lead Officer

An exciting career opportunity for has arisen with Chelmsford City Council as we look to appoint a Lead officer to our Housing Standards team. There has never been a greater interest in housing conditions and this is a fantastic opportunity to work in this expanding and demanding field. We are looking for a suitably qualified, skilled and experienced Environmental Health Officer to help us to improve housing standards, increase our positive influence on the rented sector and promote and deliver energy efficiency improvements and disabled adaptations across all tenures and property types., The Housing Standards Lead Officer will require a sound knowledge of housing and related legislation and guidance together with a proven record of its implementation. The post holder will deal with more complex housing issues, give technical support to other team members and advise service managers, Members and partners on key housing issues. They will allocate and oversee the workload of officers within the team, assist in the supervision of budgets, performance monitoring and development of policies and procedures. The successful candidate will have had a broad range of experience of housing enforcement, not least HMOs and the implementation of HHSRS and have an understanding of disabled facilities grants and loans.

We are looking for someone with excellent organisational, written and verbal communication skills who can manage a varied and demanding workload. Applications from experienced Environmental Health Officers looking to progress into a management position are welcomed. A full driving licence is required for this post and the successful applicant will be required to work 37 hours per week.
