We're excited to be growing our Housing Team and are looking for four Housing Officers to join us at an important and positive time of development. Housing Officers play a key role in delivering high-quality supported housing services, providing legal and regulatory compliance while helping to create safe, sustainable and inclusive communities for people with learning disabilities. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in people's lives while contributing to Mencap's mission and supporting delivery of the Property sub-strategy. This is a full-time, permanent role (37.5 hours per week), primarily home-based, with travel required to deliver services and to attend meetings at Mencap offices and sites across the UK as required. About the role As a Housing Officer, you'll take ownership of a designated patch of properties, delivering locality-based housing management services to tenants with learning disabilities. You'll provide proactive, person-centred support to help tenants sustain their tenancies and feel safe and empowered in their homes. Working closely with tenants, care and support teams, and external partners, you'll build strong local relationships to ensure our homes and communities are well-maintained, welcoming and inclusive. What you'll be doing

  • Tenancy management - manage a designated patch of properties to complete all tenancy related services, including management of rent and service charges, case management and undertaking legal action where required and proportionate.
  • Tenant focused working - build positive, collaborative relationships with tenants and, where appropriate, families, advocates and appointees, and external stakeholders.
  • Engagement, enforcement and conflict resolution - support investigations to resolve complaints, and positively participate in service improvements.
  • Property and estate oversight - carry out regular property inspections and estate walkabouts, managing housing related contracts across your patch.
  • Budget and income management - minimise rent arrears and support tenants to pay, undertake annual rent reviews and bi-annual service charge reviews, raise and authorise invoices for works and services.
  • Compliance and safeguarding - ensure services offer full compliance and safeguarding reporting., A leadership role where your work genuinely makes a difference

  • Experience of housing management, tenancy management or a related field
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage a varied caseload
  • Confident communication skills and a tenant-focused approach
  • Ability to work independently, flexibly and across locations
  • Commitment to inclusion, equality and values-led working
  • Experience of working with people with learning disabilities or within supported housing is desirable, but not essential.
