Bassetlaw District Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Housing Needs Team Leader to join our Housing Solutions service at an exciting time of change.

As local government reorganisation (LGR) progresses, this role offers a unique opportunity to shape and influence the future delivery of homelessness and housing options services within a transforming and evolving council landscape.

This is a key leadership role responsible for delivering an effective, compliant, and customer-focused housing advice, homelessness, and housing options service, ensuring we meet our statutory duties while supporting vulnerable residents across the district.

About the role

Reporting to the Housing Solutions Manager, you will:

Lead and manage the Housing Needs Team, driving performance, quality, and continuous improvement
Ensure compliance with Housing Act 1996, Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, and associated legislation
Oversee homelessness prevention, relief activity, and the management of temporary accommodation and associated costs
Develop and maintain strong partnership working across health, social care, and voluntary organisations
Use performance data and insight to shape service delivery, manage demand, and inform improvements
Contribute to service development, policy, and transformation activity in line with council priorities and wider change programmes

You will be a confident leader with strong technical expertise in homelessness and housing services.

You will demonstrate:

In-depth knowledge of homelessness legislation and statutory duties
Proven experience delivering housing options or homelessness services with a focus on compliance and outcomes
Experience of leading and developing teams, creating a high-performing and supportive culture
Strong capability in performance, financial and risk management, particularly relating to temporary accommodation
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
A strong commitment to supporting vulnerable residents and delivering inclusive services

A relevant qualification (or equivalent experience) in housing, public sector management, or a related field is essential.

We offer a generous employee benefit package including 26-32 days holiday plus bank holidays, free healthcare cash plan, flexitime and so much more. You can read about all our employee benefits here.
