Full Job Description
The Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment for residents, staff, and visitors within the mental health residential care home. The post holder will ensure high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) are maintained throughout the service while respecting residents' dignity, privacy, and individual needs., Cleaning and Housekeeping Duties
- Clean and maintain all communal areas, resident bedrooms, bathrooms, offices, and other designated areas to a high standard.
- Undertake daily, weekly, and deep cleaning tasks in accordance with cleaning schedules and organisational procedures.
- Ensure all furnishings, fixtures, and equipment are kept clean and in good condition.
- Replenish cleaning supplies, toiletries, and housekeeping materials as required.
- Report any maintenance issues, hazards, damage, or equipment faults promptly.
- Ensure waste is disposed of safely and appropriately in accordance with company procedures. Infection Prevention and Control (IPC)
- Adhere to all Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) policies and procedures.
- Follow cleaning and disinfection protocols to minimise the risk of infection and cross-contamination.
- Use cleaning products and chemicals safely and in accordance with COSHH regulations.
- Wear and use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriately.
- Support outbreak management procedures where required.
- Maintain accurate cleaning records and documentation as required. Laundry Services
- Collect, wash, dry, iron, and return residents' clothing and household linen in accordance with procedures.
- Ensure residents' personal clothing is handled respectfully and returned correctly.
- Maintain appropriate separation of clean and dirty laundry to prevent contamination.
- Report damaged or missing items in accordance with organisational procedures. Resident Wellbeing and Support
- Promote a comfortable, homely, and welcoming environment for residents.
- Interact with residents in a respectful, friendly, and professional manner.
- Respect residents' privacy, dignity, choice, and independence at all times.
- Be mindful of the needs of individuals living with mental health conditions and contribute positively to the therapeutic environment.
- Respond appropriately to resident requests and report concerns to senior staff. Health and Safety
- Follow all health and safety policies and procedures.
- Identify and report hazards, accidents, incidents, and near misses.
- Ensure cleaning equipment is used, stored, and maintained safely.
- Follow safe manual handling practices where required.
- Participate in mandatory training and ongoing professional development.
Previous experience in a cleaning, housekeeping, domestic, or care environment. - Understanding of cleanliness and hygiene standards.
- Knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) principles.
- Ability to follow cleaning schedules, procedures, and guidance.
- Good attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Respectful, reliable, and professional approach to work. Desirable Criteria
- Experience working within a residential care, healthcare, or mental health setting.
- Knowledge of COSHH regulations.
- Understanding of safeguarding principles.
- Experience undertaking laundry duties.

- Enhanced DBS check (where applicable).
- Completion of mandatory training, including Infection Prevention and Control, Health and Safety, COSHH, Safeguarding, Fire Safety, and Manual Handling. Compliance with all organisational policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
