Full Job Description
We're looking for a proactive and creative Assistant Manager to help grow income at our dedicated House & Home store in Harrogate. Working as a senior member of the team, you'll support the day-to-day running of our furniture and homeware retail operation, combining strong commercial awareness with a passion for purpose-led retail. You'll lead by example on the shop floor, ensuring excellent customer and donor experiences, high-quality visual merchandising, effective stock rotation, and strong furniture sales performance. Alongside supporting van operations, including collections, deliveries, and safe handling of donated goods, you'll help ensure smooth and efficient logistics across the store. You'll also support operational planning, assist with volunteer recruitment and induction, and deputise for the Manager when required. In addition, you'll contribute to the eCommerce function, helping with basic online selling activity such as photography, listings, pricing, and dispatch processes.
You'll bring experience from a retail environment, ideally including stock management, merchandising, customer service, or supporting sales through online platforms. Confident and hands-on, you're comfortable working in a fast-paced, physically active environment and enjoy leading from the front. You're highly organised, with strong IT skills (including Outlook, Excel and Word), and the ability to prioritise tasks, solve problems and work independently when needed. You also have experience supporting or supervising staff and/or volunteers and take pride in delivering a positive, inclusive team environment. With a good understanding of stock flow, KPIs, and retail operations and ideally experience with EPOS systems, Gift Aid, or eCommerce platforms you're confident working to targets and maintaining high standards. Above all, you're a resilient, values-driven team player who leads with positivity, initiative and care, and who is motivated by making a difference through sustainable retail and hospice support.
