Full Job Description

We are looking for a well-organised, motivated, enthusiastic Band 2 to take up a fundamental role as Host/Hostess within our core surgical oncology team.
The Host/Hostess will assist the nursing team in ensuring patients nutrition and hydration is maintained whilst in hospital. Ensuring correct documentation is maintained to assist members of the multidisciplinary team providing the appropriate management of patients with reduced oral intake.

You will be required to work 37.5 hours spread out throughout the week - days only., As a Host/Hostess you will assist the nursing team in ensuring patients nutritional and hydration management is maintained whilst in hospital. Ensuring correct documentation is maintained to assist members of the multidisciplinary team providing the appropriate management of patients with reduced oral intake.
You will have the training and support for this role. You will support the ward in maintaining cleanliness and stock. You will support patient's hydration and nutrition needs and document using bedside charts. You will advocate and support the patients' holistic needs by being a present and caring member of staff. You will support patient flow by assisting the team in transferring of patients as needed and preparing bed spaces available for the next patient.
You will be engaged with the ward safety controls and policies and engage in the ward-based training and initiatives to ensure ongoing learning and knowledge is in place. You will support and communicate with your colleagues with dignity and respect in line with the Christie trust values and behaviours., 1. To take patients menu choice and prepare their bed area in preparation for their meals.
2. To provide a pleasant and caring service maintaining a good customer relationship.
3. To liaise with the nursing staff over any individual patient dietary requirements or restrictions.
4. To serve patients with morning and afternoon drinks, including offering nutritional support drinks.
5. To work closely with the dietetic team and cascade information back to the clinical team.
6. To collect the dirty crockery/tray from the tray rack and to scrape and stack the dirty items into the appropriate baskets ready to be returned to the main kitchen.
7. To place the dirty cutlery/mugs into the ward dishwasher and turn on.
8. To communicate between the Ward and Catering department with any queries, complaints etc
9. To keep ward kitchen clean and tidy at all times.
10. To wash the patients crockery and tins from the service trolleys, using the industrial dishwashing machine.
11. To set up the clean trolleys with the crockery for the following meals as appropriate.
12. To set up the trolley with food items such as sandwiches.
13. To set up the ward baskets with the appropriate service equipment, sauces, serviettes, fruit etc.
14. Basic food preparation such as making sandwiches, cheese biscuits and setting up breakfast trays with fruit juices and butters.
15. General cleaning duties such as fridges, freezers, tables, floors, hand wash basins.
16. Removal of rubbish from the kitchen.
17. Reporting of any faults in the equipment and fabric of the unit.
18. Look after the lounge area including replenishing the drinks counter and maintaining a clean supply of cups and spoons.
19. Look after the patient breakfast area, clean and restock as required
20. Order stock items using computer software.
21. Any other duties at the discretion of the Ward Manager.
22. Liaise with kitchens regarding out of hours snacks and meals for post op patients.
