Full Job Description
The HIU Engineer is a field-based heating engineer responsible for maintaining, servicing and repairing Heat Interface Units (HIUs) and associated heating systems across London and the surrounding areas. Supporting a district heating network serving approximately 25,000 residents, the role is focused on ensuring customers have reliable heating and hot water within their homes. The position combines planned servicing with reactive fault-finding, requiring engineers to diagnose and repair a wide range of heating system issues including HIUs, radiators, thermostats, motorised valves and heating controls. Engineers are expected to be comfortable working on S-Plan and Y-Plan systems and have a good understanding of low temperature hot water (LTHW) heating systems. Whilst the role is primarily resident-facing, candidates should also have a basic understanding of district heating infrastructure and energy centres. HIU Engineers are often the first responder to heating outages and should be capable of carrying out initial diagnostics, identifying whether faults originate from the HIU, heating system or energy centre, and escalating plant-related issues where necessary. Typical workloads include servicing 8-10 HIUs per day or attending 6-8 reactive heating and hot water breakdowns. Engineers participate in a 1-in-4 emergency call-out rota covering London and the surrounding areas alongside other HIU and Plant Engineers. This role is ideal for experienced domestic or communal heating engineers looking to specialise within the growing district heating sector. Key responsibilities
- Completing scheduled servicing of Heat Interface Units in accordance with the servicing procedure
- Providing reactive maintenance for loss of services within required Service Level Agreements
- Identification and review of equipment faults carrying out repairs where required
- Inputting and maintaining documentation and records using the company asset management software
- Carrying out general ad hoc maintenance tasks within Energy Centre Plantrooms
- Working in a safe manner and in accordance with the company's Health & Safety policy
Hold a city & guilds qualification or equivalent - Preferably educated to Degree level
- Experience wiring and fixing, Boilers/Heating, HVAC, Steam, Air Handling, Cooling, Renewable Energy (e.g Solar or Heat Pumps), or similar
- Full UK manual driving licence, Applicants must have the unrestricted and ongoing right to work in the UK for the duration of employment, without the need for sponsorship. Due to the nature of this role, we are unable to support visa sponsorship or employ individuals with time-limited permission or conditions attached to their right to work in the UK
