Contract Type: Part-time (0.1), from September 2026 Salary: Competitive Closing Date: 12.00 noon on Wednesday 19 August 2026 This post is for a History teacher to teach Years 7 and 8 in a small prep school. It is 0.1 FTE (one 50-minute lesson per year group weekly) and offers the chance to shape the curriculum, provide pastoral support and work with choristers in a boarding context. What you'll be doing
- Plan and deliver engaging History lessons for Years 7 and 8, typically one 50-minute lesson per year group each week, with scope to develop schemes of work.
- Maintain the Individual & Societies area, ensuring suitable resources and H&S compliance.
- Assess, track and report pupil progress; set and mark classwork, prep and assessments and contribute to written reports.
- Support pupils' pastoral needs, building positive relationships with students, parents and colleagues; attend parents' evenings as required.
- Use Google Classroom, school Chromebooks and CPOMS for teaching and records, following safeguarding procedures.
- Attend up to six pre-term INSET days, perform a weekly break duty and provide occasional cover.
- Contribute to school life, supporting choristers, the boarding community and co-curricular activities where possible. What we're looking for Essential
- Degree and PGCE/QTS or equivalent for secondary teaching.
- Experience teaching secondary age groups with effective classroom management and evidence of pupil progress.
- Pastoral experience and constructive engagement with pupils and parents.
- Confident IT skills for teaching and administration; willing to use Google Classroom and school Chromebooks.
- Commitment to the IB philosophy and to collaborative team working.
- Suitability to work with children; willingness to undergo safeguarding checks and an enhanced DBS. Desirable
- Experience developing Years 7-8 curriculum.
- Experience with choristers, musicians or in boarding contexts.
- Contribution to co-curricular programmes or willingness to develop these.
- Interest in student wellbeing and mental health initiatives. About the team You will report to the Senior Deputy Head and work within Senior Prep and the Individual & Societies area, collaborating with colleagues and the Primary Years team.
