This is an opportunity to make a real difference to your local community by helping to maintain and improve the highway network across Somerset. You'll be part of a supportive team, responding to defects, carrying out reactive works, and supporting emergency responses and winter maintenance activities when needed. What will you be responsible for?

As a Highways Maintenance Operative, you'll be working within the highways maintenance team, supporting them in delivering efficient and timely highway services. Your day to day will include:

-Responding to highway defects within designated timescales, including installing and removing emergency traffic management signage

-Delivering minor improvement works to enhance the Somerset network

-Using tablet devices to provide accurate records of works and incidents

-Operating a variety of plant and equipment safely and effectively

-Promoting customer care by working closely with colleagues and interacting politely with clients and the general public

This role of Highways Maintenance Operative is great for you if:

-You hold a Full driving licence

You're self-motivated with good communication and interpersonal skills

-You're capable of working under pressure in a safety-critical role

-You enjoy working as part of a team whilst also being able to work independently with minimal supervision
