Full Job Description
Solihull Council is looking for an experienced and motivated Highway Inspection Team Manager to lead the team responsible for delivering our statutory highway inspection service and supporting the maintenance of one of the region's most important assets. This is a fantastic opportunity for a high-performing manager with a passion for highways, service improvement and people leadership. You'll play a pivotal role in ensuring the Council meets its statutory obligations, manages highway safety effectively and delivers excellent outcomes for residents, businesses and visitors across the borough. About the Role As Highway Inspection Team Manager, you will lead the day-to-day management of the inspection team, ensuring inspections are undertaken in line with statutory requirements and industry standards. Working closely with contractors, councillors, internal services and external partners, you will:
- Lead and develop a high-performing team delivering statutory highway inspections.
- Monitor and improve the performance of the Council's Strategic Highway Contract.
- Ensure accurate record keeping and timely responses to enquiries, claims and requests.
- Manage resources, budgets, quality standards and performance targets.
- Analyse data and performance information to identify opportunities for service improvement.
- Support the Strategic Lead Highway Maintenance and deputise when required.
- Manage and participate in the Council's out-of-hours response, including winter maintenance and emergency highway services.
We're looking for an organised and collaborative leader who can confidently balance operational delivery with strategic thinking., Degree-level qualification in a relevant discipline, or able to demonstrate knowledge and skills through extended experience in highways management. - Proven experience managing projects and delivering successful outcomes in a highways management environment.
- Experience of leading, managing and developing staff.
- Strong budget management and resource planning skills.
- Experience of working effectively with a wide range of stakeholders and partners.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines., This post is covered by the Fluency Duty, as outlined in the Code of Practice on the English language requirements for public sector workers.
A full driving licence and access to a vehicle, as this is an essential car user post. - Willingness to participate in and manage the out-of-hours standby rota. Why Join Solihull Council?
