Full Job Description
We have an exciting maternity cover opportunity to join our Autism and Special Schools team. As a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist you will make a leading contribution to the development and delivery of the service to special schools and autistic children / young people at The Garden School. You will be working jointly with other Band 7 therapists who hold a similar role and you will be supported by the Clinical Lead who oversees this part of the service at an operational and strategic level. The post holder will be responsible for co-ordinating the SaLT provision in their allocated school (currently The Garden School) and will work alongside more junior colleagues to offer support and guidance. You will also provide clinical supervision and facilitate staff appraisals. You will be a key member of a multi-agency team working with teaching staff, the Inclusion Team within Hackney Education (Hackney's Local Authority responsible for education), parents and other multi-agency professionals / secondary care workers. Within the multi-disciplinary context of special schools the post holder will work to independently manage a caseload of children with a range of speech, language and communication needs.Main duties of the job The service for Autism is overseen by a Clinical Lead Specialist. You will have a thorough knowledge of Autism as well as working in education settings. Excellent interaction and problem-solving skills are required. You will be well supported via robust clinical supervision and have access to excellent CPD opportunities. You will also be responsible for supervising band 5 and 6 therapists across the service.
- Work in partnership with children and young people, engaging them in their intervention and ensuring they are involved at each step and are well informed.
- To work as in integral member of multi-agency, multi-disciplinary teams around the child that include parents and may also include Paediatricians, Dietitians, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Psychologists, Early Years workers, Teachers and others.
- To manage a community caseload independently.
- To advise the wider SaLT and related teams on all aspects of communication pertaining to Autistic children/young people.
- To provide advice to non-specialists and other specialists/ professionals within the clinical field.
