Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Speech and Language Therapist with an interest in neurodiversity, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) and trauma-informed practice to join the multidisciplinary healthcare team at LSU/(Millennium Lodge)

Working with vulnerable young people aged 10-18, you will provide specialist assessment, formulation, diagnosis and intervention for speech, language, communication and social communication needs. Using advanced clinical reasoning skills, you will develop tailored intervention programmes and provide expert advice to colleagues to support engagement in education, therapy and care

You will be a key member of a well-established multidisciplinary team including nursing, psychology, psychiatry, occupational therapy and physical healthcare professionals. The role involves contributing to MDT assessments, consultations and care planning, as well as delivering training, guidance and support to staff within the secure setting and the wider CAMHS Speech and Language Therapy Service.

Millennium Lodge provides care young people placed under Youth Justice or Welfare arrangements, many of whom have experienced trauma, abuse and adverse life experiences. As part of the wider CAMHS service, you will also contribute to resource development, preventative work and information sharing with families, carers and partner agencies. Main duties of the job

Provide highly specialist Speech and Language Therapy assessments, interventions, consultation and advice for children and young people with communication difficulties, learning disabilities, sensory needs, physical disabilities.

Manage an autonomous specialist caseload, undertaking assessment, formulation, intervention, care planning and review, ensuring practice is evidence based and compliant with HCPC standards, professional guidelines and Trust policies.

Develop and deliver personalised programmes of care, provide specialist advice to multidisciplinary teams, and contribute to effective risk management and clinical decision-making.

Lead on specialist areas including dysphagia, communication aids, assistive technology, sensory impairment, profound and multiple learning disabilities, and developmental needs. Work collaboratively with professionals, families and external agencies to ensure coordinated, person-centred care and improved outcomes.

Attend and contribute to statutory and professional meetings, including Child Protection, Child in Need, Looked After Child and multi-agency risk forums. Support service development through training, pathway improvement, service evaluation and the implementation of best practices.

Provide clinical supervision, mentoring and professional support to junior staff, assistants and students, contributing to workforce development and high-quality placements.
