An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic Specialist Paediatric Physiotherapist to join the Neurodisability Movement Disorders Team at Great Ormond Street Hospital. This post has become available due to a fixed-term career break and offers an excellent opportunity to develop specialist skills within a nationally recognised tertiary service. The Neurodisability Service at GOSH provides highly specialised multidisciplinary assessment and management for children and young people with complex neurodisability and movement disorders. The service delivers a range of specialist outpatient clinics, including spasticity management and the assessment and management of rare and complex conditions. We run a busy botulinum toxin programme and a Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) service supported by inpatientneurorehabilitation. Referrals are received from across the UK. We are looking for a Paediatric Physiotherapist with experience in neurodisability assessment and rehabilitation. You will join an established multidisciplinary team and work alongside experienced colleagues within a service led by two Consultant Physiotherapy Leads and Clinical Specialist Band 8a staff. The post is offered at 0.6 WTE (22.5 hours per week) and is currently planned as three 7.5-hour working days per week. The preferred working pattern is Tuesday to Thursday; however, flexible arrangements will be considered. Core availability between 09:00 and 14:00 is essential., You will provide specialist physiotherapy assessment, treatment and advice across the Neurodisability Movement Disorders Service. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to clinical decision-making, advisory reports and collaborative care planning for children with complex needs. Paediatric neurodisability assessment and management - Spasticity management and rehabilitation - Community-based neurodisability services - Working collaboratively with families, carers and schools - Paediatric orthopaedics and neurodevelopment Responsibility for the outpatient assessment and preparation of children before and following botulinum toxin treatment. You will work flexibly alongside the Neurodisability Physiotherapy Team and collaborate closely with colleagues across physiotherapy, medicine and orthopaedics. You will have excellent paediatric handling and clinical assessment skills and be confident working both independently and as part of a specialist MDT. The service has a strong commitment to education and professional development. You will contribute to the teaching of undergraduate physiotherapy students and support the coordination and supervision of student placements. The team also provides training to medical colleagues.,
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Physiotherapy
- Health Professional Council Registration
- Evidence of relevant CPD including attendance at relevant postgraduate, Postgraduate qualification or study being undertaken
- Membership of appropriate clinical interest groups e.g., APCP, CMAS, BACD, Extensive post graduate experience in paediatric Neurodisability
- Experience of management of complex neurological disorders through the life span - using a wide range of evidenced treatment approaches, specifically including tone management.
- Experience of paediatric rehabilitation
- Work with children and families in a wide range of settings including community practice within MDTs, including education and social care.
- Changing practice in the light of clinical research
- Understanding of professional development issues and NHS reform, legal and professional issues of child protection, inclusion, privacy & data protection
- Understanding of issues in safety and incident, Highly advanced clinical skills acquired in assessment, treatment and life span management of complex Neurodisability
- Able to motivate and develop others
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Highly specialised handling and treatment skills
- Computer Literate, Lecturing and presentation skills
