Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 fixed term contract in the stroke team at Lewisham Hospital.The acute stroke unit is one of the largest in the UK and offers clinical and service development opportunities for the postholder alongside an establishedmultidisciplinaryteam.The successful applicant will provide clinical leadership to thestroke physiotherapyteam, as well as delivering the assessment and treatment of complex patients within this specialist area. The role has clinical and leadership responsibilities including:

  • To leadahigh quality, effective and efficientstrokephysiotherapy servicewithin inpatient physiotherapy services
  • To utilise highly specialised physiotherapy knowledge and skills to manage own autonomous caseload, as well as havingoversight for thetherapy provision of rotational staff.
  • To lead and manage team to ensure allacutestroke rehabilitation patients in Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust receiveappropriateassessment, diagnosis,treatmentandholisticmanagement.
  • To work collaboratively with in an integrated multi-disciplinary team, including liaison with other parts of the stroke pathway e.g. local early supported discharge services.
  • To work with support fromaclinical specialist physiotherapist in Stroke, developing strategicobjectivesand contributing to ongoing service review., 1 To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.
  • 2 Toperform highlyspecialistphysiotherapeutic assessment of patients with diverseneurologicalpresentations and complex physical and psychological conditions; to provide a provisionaltherapeuticdiagnosis and develop and deliver an individualisedholistictreatment programme. 3 To take responsibility for own caseload,being responsible fora defined area of the service,providing support to more junior members of your team.Toreceiveanddeliver formal supervision, whichiscomprisedof regular in-service training, appraisal, clinical reasoning sessions, documentation and caseload reviewsincludingobservation of clinical assessment / treatment or related discussion. 4 To lead the team andparticipateinevidence-basedaudit/research activity to further the team's clinical practice.To make recommendations to theclinical specialist physiotherapist andlead in-patient therapist for any changes to practice by the team. 5. To supervisesenior andjunior physiotherapists, physiotherapyassistantsand physiotherapy students in the clinical setting. 6. To collaborate with other members of themultidisciplinaryteam and across the stroke pathway, contributing to service evaluation, process review, strategic resourceplanningand innovation., 1. Improving representation at senior levels of staff with disabilities, from black, Asian, and ethnic minorities background, identify as LGBTQ+ and women, through improved recruitment and leadership development 2. Widening access (anchor institution) and employability 3. Improving the experience of staff with disability 4. Improving the EDI literacy and confidence of trust staff through training and development 5. Making equalities mainstream
