Full Job Description

We are looking for a passionate and knowledgeable Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to deliver Animal Care education. This is a unique opportunity to work in a nurturing environment where you'll help shape the lives of young people through hands-on animal care education. Our current residents include five young alpacas, with plans to expand our animal family soon! Please note that is advertised as full time, but part time may be considered. What you'll be doing:

  • Deliver engaging animal care lessons, initially focused on alpacas.
  • Teach students about animal behaviour, nutrition, health, and husbandry.
  • Provide practical training in handling, grooming, and basic veterinary care.
  • Create inclusive lesson plans tailored to diverse learning needs.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, offering constructive feedback.
  • Maintain a safe, supportive, and stimulating learning environment.
  • Organise field trips and real-world learning experiences.
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure a cohesive educational journey.

    Experience as a HLTA or TA in an ASC/SEN setting.
  • Qualification in animal care (desirable).
  • Empathetic, patient, and passionate about working with young people and animals.
  • Flexible availability, including occasional weekends.

    Our school supports children aged from 9 to 17 years old who are on the autistic spectrum and are struggling in education and to fit in at mainstream or other specialist settings.
