Full Job Description
You will Lead a small number of highways maintenance operational teams, preparing, organising, and leading highways operatives completing routine, non-routine, or larger scale construction, highway works. Motivate and lead colleagues by example, improve standards and compliance with Risk assessments, Health and Safety and technical highways details. Take a lead role in the winter maintenance service delivery and out of hours emergency service for highways operations.,
- Lead small teams responsible for a wide range of highways, grounds and street scene construction and maintenance tasks including winter maintenance tasks.
- Respond when called to emergency situations (unforeseen road conditions, assist emergency services with access etc.) and to work over prolonged periods of time through the night and weekends in adverse weather and road conditions.
- Use of initiative to suggest and implement better work methods, alter the order of work to achieve priorities, apply problem solving and decision making to achieve tasks successfully, to the standards required and in compliance with health & safety regulations.
- Deliver work specific job chats or toolbox talks to a direct operational team. Undertake risk assessments as necessary and ensure that work colleagues within the site understand and follow all safety measures and procedures as directed by the HGSS Works Supervisor.
- Carry out a winter road maintenance service to include precautionary salting, patrolling, road condition assessments and snow clearance of the Trunk and County roads network, working outside normal hours and often alone in extreme and challenging weather conditions.
Good organisation skills. - Ability to work in confidence and with minimum supervision.
- The ability to work alone under pressure in adverse conditions and at unsocial hours.
