Healthcare Support Worker

This role will involve caring for children and teenagers with the support of a registered nurse and being responsible for some house-keeping duties. Training will be given to successful applicants who will be required to complete a set of competencies enabling them to undertake specific additional nursing care duties and responsibilities., You will support registered nurses and the wider multidisciplinary team in delivering safe, effective, and compassionate care to children, young people, and their families.,

• Providing direct patient care, including personal hygiene, dressing, toileting, and supporting mobility.
• Assisting children and young people with eating, drinking, and maintaining adequate nutrition and hydration.
• Undertaking and accurately recording routine observations, such as temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, oxygen saturations, and pain scores.
• Supporting the care of patients before and after surgery, including monitoring comfort and wellbeing.
• Recognising changes in a patient's condition and escalating concerns promptly to a registered nurse.
• Assisting with admission, transfer, and discharge processes.
• Providing emotional support and reassurance to children, young people, parents, and carers during their hospital stay.
• Helping to maintain a safe, clean, and child-friendly ward environment in line with infection prevention and control policies.
• Assisting with the preparation of equipment and clinical areas for procedures and treatments.
• Maintaining accurate patient records and documentation in accordance with Trust policies.
• Supporting safeguarding responsibilities and promoting the welfare of children and young people at all times.
• Working collaboratively with nurses, doctors, allied health professionals, and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
• Participating in mandatory training, supervision, and personal development activities to maintain competency and improve patient care.
• Providing 1:1 support for patients requiring enhanced observations.
  
  Do you have experience working with children and young people? Do you have a childcare qualification (NVQ level 3) or other healthcare experience? If so, we could have the perfect job for you., Demonstrates a good standard of literacy and numeracy, with the ability to accurately interpret, record and communicate information.
• Evidence of level 2 Apprenticeship or diploma in Health-related subject
• Motivated to develop knowledge and skills and to undertake self-development
Desirable criteria
• Evidence of the care certificate or commitment to achieve on joining the ward
Clinical Practice,
• Evidence of working collaboratively with colleagues and contributing positively to team effectiveness and outcomes.
• Able to communicate effectively with patients/relatives and carers and all members of the multi-disciplinary team.
• Able to deliver a high standard of care for patients and always striving to improve on what you do through change and innovation.
Desirable criteria
• Evidence of experience in a paediatric healthcare environment, with knowledge and insight into specialist surgery, Able to prioritise and organise and motivate oneself and other to achieve delegated tasks.
• Abl;e to effectively and appropriately escalate concerns to reduce risk and promote safety., Committed to delivering patient-centred care, recognising and responding to the needs of patients, families and carers.
• Shows pride in the quality of care they provide for patients and learning from successes and setbacks.
