Full Job Description

We have an amazing opportunity for residential support workers to join our caring and support team at Pear Tree House in Swindon, our specialist service for children and young people with a diagnosed Learning Disability and may also have complex behavioural needs. We offer intensive levels of support and care to help the young people we care for develop social and life skills. We encourage our young people to attend school or college during their stay with us, wherever possible, and to join us on fun day trips out to theme parks, the seaside or wherever their interests lie! You will have an opportunity to learn whilst you work with Active Care Group. After probation, you will be working towards the Level 3 or 4 Diploma in Residential Child Care. What you'll be working:

  • Night shifts available
  • Every other weekend
  • Rota shifts
  • Working towards Level 3 or 4 Diploma in Residential Child Care
  • £27,766.15 (FTE) Per annum (Pro rata)
  • What you'll be doing: The post holder has a responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people at all times. All staff are expected to act in accordance with safeguarding legislation, organisational policies, and statutory guidance. We believe safeguarding is everyone's responsibility. We expect all staff to be vigilant, proactive, and committed to creating a safe, nurturing environment where children feel protected, listened to, and respected.
  • Build relationships with children and young people
  • Establish methods of communication with children and young people, reducing barriers when necessary
  • Assist children and young people with mealtimes where necessary
  • Support with activities of daily living and personal care when needed
  • Communicate any issues to the on-shift team leader or management
  • Accurately report and/or record work activities, After probation, you will be enrolled on a Level 4 Diploma in Residential Child Care course and must be willing to work towards this

    A genuine interest in providing the best person-centred care possible for our young people
  • NVQ 3 or equivalent in Childcare, or be willing to work towards this
  • Previous experience of working within a children's home or within the child care sector, Autism/ LD is desirable
  • Should have lived in the UK for 3 years
  • The ability to communicate effectively at all levels
