Healthcare / Podiatry Assistant - Diabetic Foot Clinic

An opportunity has arisen at St George's NHS Foundation Trust for a Health Care or Podiatry Assistant to join our team at the Diabetes Foot Clinic. This position offers the chance for a candidate to join an innovative and forward thinking Diabetes Foot Clinic in one of London's largest and busiest hospitals. The successful post-holder would be expected to work alongside a team of Specialist Diabetes Podiatrists and assist in the effective running of a busy outpatient clinic and inpatient service. They would support the multidisciplinary team and promote effective, evidence based care to patients with a range of diabetes foot conditions. The role would entail maintaining a safe, clean and well stocked clinical environment for patients and staff. There would be involvement in service development duties, including clinical audit, and clinical roles such as the application/removal of simple dressings and casts. The candidate would also be expected to perform clinical procedures such as capillary blood glucose testing, venepuncture, ECG and vital-sign monitoring. • Work alongside podiatrists to provide high-quality care to patients attending the Diabetic Foot Clinic.
• Prepare patients for clinical assessment and procedures and assist the podiatry team during treatment.
• Undertake a range of clinical skills within agreed competencies, including observations, blood glucose monitoring, urinalysis, ECGs, venepuncture and simple wound care.
• Support patient assessment, care planning and health promotion under the supervision of the podiatrist.
• Provide compassionate support and reassurance to patients and their families.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and ensure patient records are kept up to date.
• Contribute to clinical audits, research and service improvement initiatives.
• Maintain a safe, clean and well-stocked clinical environment and ensure equipment is appropriately cleaned and maintained.
• Work collaboratively as part of the multidisciplinary team, demonstrating the Trust's values and maintaining high standards of patient care.
• Develop clinical skills and competencies through training, supervision and continuing professional development.
