Full Job Description

We are inviting caring, supportive people to take a look at this exciting opportunity to join us as a Clinical Healthcare Support Worker. We're looking for people who love helping others and can come to work with a positive attitude and a friendly smile. If that sounds like you, as a Clinical Healthcare Support Worker you will leave at the end of each shift feeling proud of the work you have done to support our patients. Our Clinical Health Care Support Workers are integral to our nursing teams. It takes flexibility, commitment and compassion, and in return we can offer you a rewarding career where you can make a difference. No previous healthcare experience is necessary. We will train you before you start working on one of our wards. You will start on our induction programme to help you settle in and you will learn the skills you need to do this role. You will also start you working towards the Care Certificate (if you do not already hold this qualification)., You'll work under the guidance of a healthcare professional i.e. a nurse and your job will vary depending on the ward you are based. Your daily duties will be varied to include:

  • Helping patients get up, washed and dressed, taking patients to the toilet, helping at meal times
  • Contribute to patient assessments such as blood pressure monitoring, oxygen saturation levels, body temperature
  • Recording your actions accurately in patient notes.
  • Our hospital is a 24 hour service as our patients need care and attention around the clock. Therefore we work on a shift basis and you are likely to be given early, late, and night shifts, so everyone gets involved working different shifts to ensure our patients receive the very best care. This may be a big change to you and your lifestyle but our teams who work around the clock say that they enjoy the varied work pattern and get to work with more colleagues compared to the usual 9-5.

  • You need to be able to understand and communicate both verbally and write in English
  • Have numerical and analytic skills to do patient observations
  • You will need to have a customer-focused approach
  • You will need to be able to use IT systems and databases
  • You will have the skill to focus on the details with the ability to spot problems.

At the RUH we're proud to put people at the heart of what we do, working together as one team to make a difference for our patients, each other, and our community. No matter what your role is, we value everyone's contribution in supporting the exceptional, person-centred care we pride ourselves on.
  • We are committed to creating a compassionate and inclusive environment. This can be seen in our growing community of staff networks - celebrating successes and creating opportunities to listen and learn. We value our differences, champion kindness and civility, and truly believe that diversity makes us stronger. A culture of learning, developing and innovating is the thread that runs throughout our whole organisation. We want to support you to thrive, taking your career to its full potential. We value staff wellbeing, with a well-established programme of support. We believe in a holistic approach spanning all aspects of living a healthy life, including physical, emotional, spiritual and financial wellbeing. We've even got a pool! We are committed to supporting you and hope you want to join our team.
