Full Job Description

General duties will include assisting patients to meet their hygiene needs both at the bedside and in the bathroom with showering etc, pressure area care and positional changes in patients who are unable to move themselves, giving out and collecting in meals to patients and assisting patients who need support to meet their nutritional requirements, working alongside a trained nurse to deliver a high standard of nursing care., Duties will include helping patients to meet their nutritional requirements through providing meals and hydration in a timely manner, ensuring patients are prepared for their meals, monitoring and recording nutritional intake on food record charts and fluid balance charts, following advice from dieticians and SLT. Doing brew rounds throughout the shift. Assisting patients with their hygiene needs, promoting independence where possible but providing assistance as needed for patients who may be acutely unwell or post operative, aiming for a return to independence. Promoting mobility, working alongside physiotherapists and occupational therapists to help patients recover well from surgery or a return to baseline. Having an awareness of falls prevention and implementing strategies to reduce the number of falls and harm to patients. Monitoring patients pressure areas to prevent deterioration in skin condition, working alongside the RN to provide pressure relief to those patients unable to maintain their own or to promote techniques for patients to manage their own where possible. Assisting with the safe running of the ward alongside other members of the ward team to provide safe, personal and effective care to our patients.

You must be able to work under pressure, both within a team and using your own initiative. You must be flexible, punctual and hard working. An understanding of the role and experience is preferable, but training will be provided. Working alongside a trained nurse to deliver safe, personal and effective care is the main responsibility but an enthusiasm to develop yourself within the role is desirable. Further knowledge of basic life support, safer handling and equality and diversity are all areas in which experience is preferable but training can be provided for the successful candidate.   • computer literate as using Millenium Cerner for all documentation
  • Effective and clear communication skills
  • Ability to work within a team or using own initiative
  • GCSE English and Maths level 5 or above (or equivalent), previous experience as a HCA or in caring profession
  • NVQ level 2 or equivalent in care, care certificate or willingness to undertake
  • adaptable, flexible and hard worker

  • Please note that the salary advertised is for full time hours. If this post is less than 37.5 hours per week, the salary will be pro-rata. For posts on Agenda for Change pay-scales, new entrants to the NHS will normally commence on the first pay point of the relevant band.
