In this rewarding role, our HCAs work alongside registered nurses to provide outstanding person-centred care to patients with life-limiting illnesses, ensuring they receive the highest levels of comfort, dignity and support. • Please note: we are not part of the NHS, and as such we do not hold a licence to enable visa sponsorship, Our Healthcare Assistants support the registered nursing team in providing the care and support to our patients on the Inpatient Unit at our Hospice. Working as part of the designated care team, they support the registered nurses in promoting and providing patient centred care, ensuring at all times the comfort, dignity and privacy of the patients in our care., You will be required to deliver a high standard of direct patient care, assisting the patient in all activities of daily living, with both direct and indirect supervision as delegated by the qualified nurse., Promote a patient centred approach to care delivery by assisting patients in all daily living activities, as required by the nursing team and the patients care requirements, ensuring any changes in a patients condition is reported immediately to a registered nurse
Ensure patient comfort, dignity and privacy is maintained at all times and report any concerns to the nursing team. Assist in the monitoring of patients blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiratory rate, peak flow and oxygen saturation on completion of the internal training day and competency pack. Obtain specimens of body fluids as requested by the qualified nurse on completion of the internal training day and competency pack Escort patients to hospital and other appointments as requested Maintain high standards of care in an environment which promotes equality and sensitivity for all individuals Organise and provide patients meals and drinks as required, ensuring all dietary and medical needs of the patient are followed, raising any concerns with the registered nurse Maintain a safe environment for all patients and colleagues across Mountbatten, reporting any concerns to the registered nurse The postholder will be required to practice safe infection control methods at all times in accordance with Mountbatten policy and the required competency standards as a Healthcare Assistant Be aware and practice safe manual handling in accordance with Mountbatten policy, in accordance with the required competencies and only when the relevant Moving and Handling training has been completed Ensure that all general aspects of supporting the welfare of the patient(s) are provided, including ordering meals, changing and making beds and providing personal care as required,
• To respond to difficult situations in a sensitive manner and have the ability to deal with difficult emotional situations
• To be an effective advocate for the patient within multi-disciplinary teams across all healthcare settings
• To work shift patterns on a rota basis including nights, weekend, bank holidays
• To be flexible in covering shifts at short notice.
  
  You will be qualified to Level 2 Health and Social Care Certificate and have previous care experience. The role will be part of a dedicated team of professionals, who will also be able to work under their own initiative to ensure the highest standard of care. A can-do attitude with strong communication skills will be required., Physically capable of undertaking safe manual handling of patients and equipment

• Willingness and commitment to own development, with the support of Mountbatten, to include, but not limited to mandatory training, Bluestream and clinical standards of care, Care Certificate or NVQ level 2 in health care or equivalent or willing to study towards, Demonstrate commitment to the patients right to be involved in decision making relating to their health care and ensuring decisions are understood by care teams
• Good IT Skills including Microsoft and email applications
• Good communication skills to explain complex and sensitive information effectively in both written and oral to both patients, families, carers and other professionals
• Knowledge of pressure area care, nutrition and moving and handling with the ability to assess risk, Commitment to improving and promoting palliative care services
• Motivated and committed to personal and professional development, Experience of providing personal care and support for patients within care in a hospital, hospice or community setting
• Experience of working in a person centred/personal outcomes approach, Awareness of palliative care issues
• Recent Palliative Care Experience
• Experience of dealing with vulnerable adults in a care setting
• Experience of working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and the ability to form good working relationships at all levels including volunteers, Awareness of palliative care issues

£12.92 an hour (£25,261 per annum FTE Mountbatten Band 2)
