The post holder will be responsible for;
· Acting as the Trust's competent person concerning the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 (as Amended) (MHOR).
· The day-to-day management and delivery of effective trust-wide systems and processes to effectively gather and act upon patient safety and quality of care information related to moving and handling, in line with current Government Legislation, Regulations, Policy Guidance, and good practice.
· Supporting a culture that improves quality by enabling the delivery of high-quality care through the effective identification of lessons/areas for improvement and promotion of learning as a result of data analysis and investigation, using audit and evaluation cycles to seek assurance.

Ensure that Health & Safety strategies, policies, and processes are reviewed and updated regularly to ensure they reflect changes and improvements in the national Health & Safety agenda, relevant legislation, and guidance.
Act as a role model for working with people who use our services, their families, carers, and others, as well as staff to create an atmosphere of transparency, openness, and candour, leading and chairing relevant groups/meetings as required.
Responsible for undertaking immediate action, on behalf of the Trust, to address health & safety concerns. This may involve being disturbed from other work regularly. It may also involve exposure to staff, their line managers, and services who may be concerned about incidents.
To undertake a central advisory and monitoring role in the implementation of the MHOR and the reduction of work-related musculoskeletal disorders in the Trust.
To provide specialist advice and training to managers and staff on all moving and handling related activities, including: risk assessments, equipment selection, and provision.
Represent the Trust and liaise as necessary with other NHS bodies, local authorities, and government departments on matters relating to patient safety.
Escalating concerns regarding health & safety activities, and outcomes from investigations, which identify potential issues for professional competencies and/or conduct.
Use highly developed analytic skills for both qualitative and quantitative data received to deliver accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual reports of Health & Safety for the Trust's Board, Sub Committee, or Groups.
Ensure that the Trust Board, Governors, senior managers and clinical directors and service managers receive regular information about the quality and safety of their service, including interpretation of National and Local data sets, the numbers and types of incidents and the recommendations for learning as a result of investigation, including developing ad-hoc reports as required.
Ensure the health & safety team effectively secretariat relevant meetings with the timely circulation of papers.
Active liaison with clinical and non-clinical directorates and senior management at all levels of the organisation, to provide health and safety support and advice as required.
Develops evidence-based systems and pathways to assist departments with risk assessments for multi-disciplinary and complex handling situations, including evaluation of resultant safe systems of work
Uses an evidence-based approach to support departments with risk assessments for complex handling activities. Using a simple range of tools to identify the level of risk, recommend suitable risk reduction measures, and complete as necessary, safe systems of work.
Where necessary, explore other sources of information and liaise with specialist staff (internal or external) as appropriate.
Researches a range of handling equipment suitable to meet the existing and future identified needs of the Trust, and liaises with purchasing managers on provision and maintenance needs, including development of business cases where required.
Identifies and evaluates a range of handling equipment suitable for the identified needs of the Trust
Designs, delivers, and evaluates a range of training programmes for staff and keyworkers to meet the identified needs of the Trust
Evaluates general and specific training programmes to identify unmet needs and explores emerging trends for further action.
Contributes to the design, interpretation, and resulting action plans from quality assurance audits and accident investigations
Promotes a preventative approach to MSDs through the evaluation of audit findings and root cause analysis of accidents, to identify trends and recommend measures to address identified needs.
Provides advice and training to staff on completion of robust care plans and handling documentation, exploring other sources of information in complex situations when required

We have an exciting opportunity for a registered health professional to join our Health & Safety Services Department as the Trust's trainer for moving and handling on a full-time basis.
The successful candidate will work closely with the clinical and non-clinical teams to lead the development and delivery of the Trust's moving and handling training strategy, aiming to prevent and reduce musculoskeletal injuries among staff, thereby ensuring their health and safety, which in turn supports the provision of excellent patient care.
The successful candidate will have experience in training staff and will ideally possess train-the-trainer certificates for both moving and handling and the use of evacuation equipment.
