Health and Safety Business Partner

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Health and Safety Business Partner to take a lead role in shaping and driving a positive safety culture across Leeds University Union (LUU). This is a high-impact, hands-on role where you will act as the organisation's subject matter expert on health and safety-partnering with teams at all levels to ensure compliance, influence behaviours, and embed best practice in everything we do. From large-scale events to day-to-day operations, you will play a critical role in identifying risks, driving improvements, and ensuring a safe, inclusive environment for our students, staff, and visitors. You'll have the autonomy to lead on policy development, deliver engaging training, and influence strategic decision-making, while working closely with university stakeholders and student groups. • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of health & safety policies and procedures in line with UK legislation
• Ensure compliance through audits, inspections, and risk assessments across facilities, events, and activities
• Provide expert advice and practical support to managers, student groups, and colleagues
• Deliver engaging training and promote health & safety awareness across the organisation
• Investigate incidents and accidents, identify root causes, and drive preventative actions
• Monitor performance, analyse trends, and report to internal committees and stakeholders
• Work collaboratively with University teams and external partners to ensure best practice
• Support safe delivery of student activities, including societies and events
