Full Job Description

We are looking for an enthusiastic, hard working and flexible person to join our team to deliver safe, personal and effective care to a range of surgical patients. Working alongside a registered nurse, you will deliver a high standard of nursing care to a variety of surgical patients who have been admitted as an emergency or electively for planned surgery. Predominantly HPB patients we care for acutely unwell and pre and post operative patients, many of whom have complex needs. You will help these patients navigate through their hospital journey by aiding them with nutrition, mobility, hygiene needs and a variety of additional duties like venepuncture, cannulation and measuring physiological observations. Adhering to the Trusts visions and values, delivering essential care to patients on their admission and stay towards discharge ., General duties will include assisting patients to meet their hygiene needs both at the bedside and in the bathroom with showering etc, pressure area care and positional changes in patients who are unable to move themselves, giving out and collecting in meals to patients and assisting patients who need support to meet their nutritional requirements and working alongside a trained nurse to deliver a high standard of nursing care. The role will also include carrying out physiological observations including recording of blood sugars, venepuncture, cannulation and carrying out other investigations like ECG's on patients and reporting any abnormalities to the RN. You must be able to work under pressure, both within a team and using your own initiative. You must be punctual, hard working and flexible. An understanding of the role and experience is preferable. Working alongside a trained nurse to deliver safe, personal and effective care is the main responsibility but an enthusiasm to, This can be expected as the main duties of the job above as well as further knowledge of basic life support, physiological measurement recording, safer handling and equality and diversity are all areas in which experience is preferable but training can be provided for the successful candidate. There will also be a requirement to develop your knowledge with learning skills like venepuncture and cannulation, emptying drains, catheters and naso-gastric tubes, removal of cannulas, catheters and assisting the registered nurse with some aspects of wound care. There will also be a need to complete accurate documentation on our electronic Cerner system inputting data such as urine output, food record charts, intentional roundings etc. Patients are the most important part of our work and caring for them to a high standard in a caring and safe environment is paramount.
