Health Based Place of Safety (HBPoS) Staff Nurse

As a Band 6 Mental Health Nurse, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality, person-centred care to individuals experiencing acute mental health crises. The successful candidates will oversee and coordinate nursing practice, ensuring care is delivered safely, effectively, and in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code of Professional Conduct, the Pan-London Section 136 Guidance, and relevant Trust policies and procedures.

You will be expected to place the needs of service users at the centre of all aspects of care delivery while providing clinical leadership and professional support to colleagues. Working closely with a multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to the assessment, management, and care planning of individuals detained under Section 136/135 of the Mental Health Act and others requiring care within a hospital-based place of safety.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is responsible for:

Assessment and Clinical Care

-Undertake comprehensive mental health, physical health, risk, and nursing assessments upon admission to the Health-Based Place of Safety.

-Monitor and evaluate service users' mental and physical health needs throughout their stay.

-Identify and respond appropriately to signs of deterioration, self-harm, suicide risk, substance misuse, withdrawal symptoms, or medical emergencies.

-Provide immediate clinical interventions and nursing care in accordance with evidence-based practice and organisational policies.

Risk Management and Safety

-Conduct dynamic risk assessments and develop appropriate risk management plans.

-Maintain a safe therapeutic environment for service users, staff, and visitors.

-Implement de-escalation techniques and least restrictive interventions in accordance with legal and professional standards.

-Participate in emergency responses, including rapid tranquilisation, resuscitation, and management of medical emergencies where required.
