Health Advisor - fixed term

We have two exciting Band 4 Health Advisor opportunities available within the Health Inequalities team at Royal Papworth Hospital.

The Health Advisor will provide personalised health information, advice and behaviour-change support to patients. You will work with patients, clinical teams and external services to help individuals make informed decisions and access appropriate support.

As this is a developing service, the exact requirements of the role may evolve. Flexibility, initiative and adaptability will therefore be important.

The positions are fixed term for two years one full-time post at 37.5 hours per week and one part-time post at 10 hours per week. Please include in the supporting information the role you are interested in.

Main duties of the job

As part of the Health Inequalities team, you will visit wards across the hospital and work directly with patients who may benefit from support with smoking, alcohol use, weight management and other lifestyle risks. You will complete basic health checks, explore what matters to each person and help them agree realistic goals that fit their circumstances.

You will provide practical advice, brief interventions and follow-up support, including guidance on stop smoking treatments and referrals to community or specialist services. Where appropriate, you may also support household members to help create a healthier home environment and reduce the patient's future risk.

The role includes organising your own daily workload, keeping clear and confidential electronic records, and contributing to service data, audit, patient information and health promotion activities. You will work closely with ward teams and external partners, using empathy and motivational skills while recognising when a patient needs advice or escalation from a senior colleague.
