Full Job Description

Baxter College is a thriving, inclusive secondary school, providing an equitable education to the young people of Wyre Forest. Everything we do is built upon six core values that create a nurturing environment where our students can flourish and build successful futures. For us, these values are central to a positive, productive school community, and we look to instil them in our students through our own everyday conduct, both inside and outside the classroom. This vital, non-teaching role is central to our pastoral team, offering a dedicated professional the opportunity to make a real difference to student culture, welfare, and engagement within a specific year group. Working outside the traditional classroom, you will act as a key anchor for our students-proactively tracking attendance, driving positive behaviour frameworks, and delivering early interventions in partnership with families and external support agencies. As a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, you will maintain a vigilant focus on our most vulnerable children, ensuring that safety, inclusion, and emotional stability underpin their time at school. Leading by example, you will work closely with Key Stage Leads and the senior leadership team to ensure your year group's daily routines align with the school's wider aims. You will directly guide, mentor, and work alongside a dedicated team of form tutors, establishing clear structures for morning line-ups, registration periods, and character-building assemblies. This is an ideal position for an empathetic, resilient, and highly organised professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, possesses excellent interpersonal skills, and is genuinely passionate about breaking down barriers to learning.

  • Brilliance: We believe that all students have the potential to be brilliant, and we strive to provide them with the opportunities and support they need to succeed.
  • Accountability: We believe that students are responsible for their own learning, and we expect them to take ownership of their work and be accountable for their actions.
  • EXcellence: We believe that students should strive for excellence in everything they do, and we encourage them to challenge themselves and never give up.
  • Trust: We believe that trust is essential for a positive learning environment, and we trust our students to do their best and behave in a responsible manner.
  • Engagement: We believe that students learn best when they are engaged in their learning, and we create a variety of opportunities for students to be actively involved in their education.
  • Routine: We believe that routines help students feel organised and in control, and we encourage students to develop and follow routines.
  • Joining our school community will suit those with:
  • A shared commitment to our values and to forming positive working relationships with our community
  • Experience in building and maintaining effective relationships with families and external agencies.
  • Commitment to their own professional development and a culture of open professional dialogue
  • Passion for combating social disadvantage and generating social capital
  • Enthusiasm for innovation in curriculum and assessment

Being part of Severn Academies Educational Trust enables collaboration with best practice across our schools. The Trust is committed to harnessing talent and developing its people and there may be opportunity to undertake further training and development in related disciplines. There may also be flexibility to work across other settings within the trust, for the right candidate.
  • Other benefits include: Generous Occupational Pension
  • Free confidential Employee Health and Well-being service including access to counselling support
  • Free confidential employee helpline 24/7
  • Incremental pay progression and cost of living increases in line with government policy
  • Flexible working arrangements to support colleagues with work-life balance.
  • Baxter College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure via the Disclosure & Barring Service and will be subject to reference checks.
