Full Job Description

The SIU also acts as a vital gatekeeper and steward for NIU, and for HMPPS more widely, ensuring that relevant policies and legislation is adhered to, in respect of key aspects of intelligence practice. Attention to detail, good grasp of policy and legislative requirements, and the ability to navigate sensitive issues diplomatically, are also key attributes required in the role. The National Intelligence Unit, and wider National Security Group, continues to mature and develop. The post-holder will need to continue to refine and revise the SIU operating model to ensure it remains optimally positioned to deliver its functions and support its customer base. The post-holder will need to be comfortable with change management, and able to contribute strongly to organisational/operating model design exercises, as well as hold the ability to lead teams through change. Frequent travel across England and Wales, and potentially further afield, is required as part of this role. The post-holder must also be willing to partake in a 24/7 on-call rota, for which appropriate compensation is paid (RHA). The post-holder will frequently be required to assess risk, and to take defensible decisions, sometimes under considerable time pressure, or/and with limited information available. Albeit the post-holder can be based nationally, the post requires frequent office attendance in central London. If contractually based outside of London, the frequency of London office attendance is likely to mean the post-holder is classed as holding a Dual Workplace, for tax purposes. Please ensure that you understand the implications of this before applying for the role. Due to the nature of the work in the SIU, the post-holder is required to uphold the highest levels of integrity at all times; and to work with absolute discretion when required. Additional Information Candidate will need to pass Developed Vetting before taking up post. NPPV2 vetting is a requirement for this role. Working Arrangements & Further Information The MoJ offers Hybrid Working arrangements where business need allows. This is an informal, non-contractual form of flexible working that blends working from your base location, different MoJ sites and / or from home (please be aware that this role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas). Some roles will not be suitable for Hybrid Working. Similarly, Hybrid Working will not suit everyone's circumstances. Arrangements will be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate(s) and subject to regular review. For nationally advertised roles, the successful candidate(s) will be appointed to a MoJ office location, which may include their nearest Justice Collaboration Centre or Justice Satellite Office. This will be discussed and agreed on the completion of pre-employment checks. Some of MoJ's terms and conditions of service are changing as part of Civil Service reform. The changes will apply to staff joining MoJ who are new to the Civil Service. Staff joining MoJ from other civil service employers will transfer onto the new MoJ terms if they are already on 'modernised' terms in their current post or onto 'unmodernised' MoJ terms if they are on 'unmodernised' terms at their current post. Details will be available if an offer is made. Standard full time working hours are 37 hours per week excluding breaks which are unpaid. All applications for part-time, flexible and job-sharing working patterns will be considered in accordance with the HMPPS' Flexible Working policy. If you are a current NPS employee, this vacancy may be available on a Loan basis for up to 2 years. Applications are invited from suitable qualified staff.
