Full Job Description
Due to an internal promotion, The Kent Autistic Trust is seeking an experienced, passionate and values-driven HEAD OF POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR SUPPORT (PBS) to lead and develop PBS practice across our organisation. This is an exciting opportunity to join a respected charity supporting autistic people, people with learning disabilities and people with related support needs across Kent and Medway through residential, supported living, respite, outreach and day services.
As a senior leader within the Trust, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and strengthening Positive Behaviour Support across all services. You will provide both strategic and operational leadership, ensuring that PBS practice remains person-centred, evidence-informed and focused on improving quality of life, reducing behaviours of concern and achieving positive outcomes for the people we support.
This is a highly influential role combining hands-on professional expertise with organisational leadership. You will lead and develop our national award-winning PBS Team, oversee PBS planning and functional assessment activity, provide specialist consultation and training, contribute to safeguarding oversight and quality assurance, and support the ongoing development of best practice throughout the Trust.
Working closely with people supported, families, operational managers, senior leaders and external professionals, you will help ensure that PBS principles are embedded throughout the organisation and that support remains proactive, consistent and focused on individual strengths and aspirations.
ABOUT THE ROLE
o Key responsibilities include:
o Providing strategic and operational leadership for Positive Behaviour Support across the Trust.
o Leading, developing and supporting the PBS Team.
o Overseeing functional assessments, PBS plans and multi-element support plans.
o Supporting services with complex presentations, incident response and crisis planning.
o Delivering training, coaching and consultation to managers and staff teams.
o Contributing to safeguarding analysis, quality assurance and organisational governance.
o Developing the PBS Team business plan and reporting progress to senior leadership and the Board.
o Building strong relationships with families, advocates, commissioners, health professionals, social care professionals and regulators.
We're looking for a credible PBS professional who combines strong technical expertise with exceptional leadership and communication skills. You will be someone who is passionate about improving lives, influencing practice and supporting others to deliver outstanding person-centred support.
You will thrive in a values-led organisation and enjoy working both strategically and operationally, helping to shape the future direction of PBS while remaining connected to practice and outcomes.
At KAT, our mission is simple: to support people to live fulfilled, meaningful lives with choice, independence and inclusion at the heart of everything we do.
This role offers the opportunity to:
o Influence Trust-wide practice and quality.
o Lead an established specialist team.
o Work alongside an experienced and committed senior leadership team.
o Make a lasting difference to the lives of autistic people and people with learning disabilities.
o Shape the future development of Positive Behaviour Support within a growing and ambitious organisation.
