Head of History & Politics

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, inspiring and academically ambitious Head of History & Politics to lead two popular and successful subjects.

The successful candidate will provide strategic and academic leadership for the department, taking overall responsibility for coordinating History across the whole school. Whilst the teaching commitment for this post will be based in the Senior School, the Head of Department will oversee subject teaching, curriculum alignment and progression in the Junior School to ensure a seamless educational journey from Year 4 through to Sixth Form.

History is a well-established and highly regarded subject throughout the School, with pupils following the Edexcel specification at GCSE and OCR History at A Level. The department aims not only to develop secure historical knowledge, but also to encourage intellectual curiosity, critical thinking and an appreciation of the ways in which the past continues to shape the modern world.

Politics is a vibrant, popular A Level subject delivered exclusively in the Sixth Form, following the Edexcel specification. The successful candidate will bring strong subject expertise and a genuine enthusiasm for UK and US government and politics, political ideas and contemporary political issues. They will inspire Sixth Form pupils to analyse, interpret and evaluate political information, develop well-reasoned arguments and engage confidently with the complex issues that shape society.

Alongside a significant Senior School teaching commitment, the postholder will lead whole-school curriculum development for History, oversee Sixth Form Politics provision, and conduct departmental planning, assessment and quality assurance. They will also support and develop colleagues involved in teaching History across both Junior and Senior phases, whilst promoting both subjects beyond the classroom through academic enrichment, including trips, visiting speakers and the development of the History Society.
