Job Title: Head of Department - Media Studies Grade: MPS / UPS plus TLR 2b Responsible to: Assistant Headteacher Start Date: September 2026 Contract: Full Time, permanent We are excited to present a rare opportunity for a dynamic, forward-thinking, and energetic Head of Media to lead our thriving Media Studies department at TWGSB. The aim of the subject within TWGSB is to be able to critically consider the media that saturates modern life, both old and new. The Media Studies department is consistently very successful at both GCSE and A Level. The course is delivered in two Apple Macintosh-equipped computer suites, and students have access to equipment and digital video editing facilities such as the Adobe Creative Cloud suite (including Premiere Pro and Photoshop). We also have a dedicated technician who supports the students through the practical coursework. The Media Studies department currently offers Eduqas GCSE and A Level Media Studies courses. The department runs a number of extra-curricular learning opportunities, including the Film Makers Club, a filming trip, courses at the BFI and attendance to a national Media conference for A Level students, as well as an Oscars Award ceremony celebrating the work of Year 11-13 students. Purpose of the Job The Head of Department is responsible for all teaching and support of colleagues in the Media Studies Department. They will take lead responsibility for providing leadership and management within their subject area, in order to secure: · High quality teaching · Effective use of resources · Improved standards of learning and achievement for all The ideal candidate will be an inspiring teacher who is ready to step up and provide professional leadership and management in Media to secure high-quality teaching, effective use of resources and improved standards of learning and achievement for all students. They will have a proven track record in academic success and curriculum innovation. The ability to teach across all key stages would be desirable.
