Head of Department - Biology

The Head of Department - Biology is responsible for leading and managing the Biology department to ensure high standards of teaching, learning and pupil achievement. The postholder provides strategic leadership for the subject, develops and monitors the curriculum, supports and develops staff, and drives continuous improvement in teaching and student outcomes. They play a key role in whole-school improvement, model excellent classroom practice, and promote the Catholic ethos and values of the school and Trust.

Key responsibilities include leading and supporting departmental staff, monitoring the quality of teaching and learning, analysing performance data, managing resources and budgets, overseeing curriculum development, and ensuring pupils are well prepared for examinations. The role also involves safeguarding responsibilities, working closely with pastoral and SEND teams, maintaining effective relationships with parents and carers, and contributing to the wider life, mission and strategic development of the school.

This role would suit an experienced and highly effective teacher with strong leadership, organisational and communication skills, a proven ability to raise standards, and a commitment to educational excellence, safeguarding and the Catholic ethos of the school.
