Full Job Description
Working in collaboration with the College Deputy Principal, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of a high-quality curriculum, providing the necessary support to help all learners excel and achieve their potential in our vibrant teaching and learning environment. The role also involves supporting the College Deputy Principal in effectively leading and managing the department to meet the College's strategic objectives, behaviours, and targets outlined in the Strategic Plan.
We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Head of Curriculum (Health and Early Years) to lead the development and delivery of a high-quality, inclusive curriculum across both subject areas. The successful candidate may be qualified in either Health or Early Years, and candidates who hold qualifications / relevant experience in either specialism would be considered. This is a key leadership role, responsible for ensuring programmes reflect current sector practices, regulatory requirements, and workforce needs within health and early years education. The successful candidate will drive excellence in teaching, learning, and assessment, support and develop a dedicated team, and build strong partnerships with employers and placement providers. With a clear focus on student achievement, wellbeing, and progression, you will play a pivotal role in preparing learners with the knowledge, skills, and professional values required for careers supporting health, care, and child development. To excel in this position, you will need a degree-level qualification and relevant industry experience in either Health or Early Years, along with a full Level 5 (or higher) teaching qualification (e.g., Cert Ed/PGCE). Ideally, you will have experience in curriculum planning and development, a proven record of delivering teaching and learning at a consistently good or outstanding level, and the ability to lead and manage a skilled, professional team to achieve outstanding results.
North Kent College (including Hadlow College) is proudly rated as an Ofsted 'Good' provider, with 'Outstanding' learner behaviours and attitudes (April 2024). With four campuses across Kent and 4,000 students, we strive to equip the young people who study here with an inclusive and innovative education experience to enhance their future career prospects, which, as noted by Ofsted, is supported through our high-quality, industry standard facilities. Each and every staff member plays a key part in delivering the success of our learners' experience, and we want those who join our curriculum and support teams to share our passion in achieving this.
In addition to a competitive salary, you can expect the following as a Head of Curriculum at NKC:
- 42 days' annual leave, plus bank holidays (pro rata for part-time contracts).
- Enrolment onto the Teachers' Pension Scheme (TPS), one of the most generous in the country.
- Access to free parking and a number of onsite facilities, including gyms, restaurants and coffee shops.
- CPD and support from our in-house Teaching & Learning team, who coach, train, and guide our Lecturers through their teaching journey, from unqualified and new to teaching to qualified and experienced.
