Full Job Description

Do you have a passion for building services and want to inspire the next generation? We have an exciting opportunity for a Head of Curriculum - Building Services Engineering to join our Building Services Engineering curriculum team in readiness for the start of the 2026/27 academic year, with an aimed start date of 19 August 2026. Working in collaboration with the College Deputy Principal, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of a high-quality curriculum, providing the necessary support to help all learners excel and achieve their potential in our vibrant teaching and learning environment. The role also involves supporting the College Deputy Principal in effectively leading and managing the department to meet the College's strategic objectives, behaviours, and targets outlined in the Strategic Plan. We are seeking a forward thinking and industry connected Head of Curriculum (Building Services Engineering) to lead the design, development, and delivery of an innovative and responsive curriculum. This is a key leadership role, responsible for ensuring programmes align with current industry standards, emerging technologies, and sustainability priorities, including low carbon and energy efficient systems. The successful candidate will drive high quality teaching and learning, support and develop a skilled team, and build strong partnerships with employers to enhance student outcomes and progression. With a focus on both technical excellence and practical application, you will play a central role in preparing learners with the knowledge, skills, and professional behaviours required to succeed in a rapidly evolving sector.

To excel in this position, you will need a degree-level qualification and relevant industry experience in Building Services, along with a full Level 5 (or higher) teaching qualification (e.g., Cert Ed/PGCE). Ideally, you will have experience in curriculum planning and development, a proven record of delivering teaching and learning at a consistently good or outstanding level, and the ability to lead and manage a skilled, professional team to achieve outstanding results.

North Kent College (including Hadlow College) is proudly rated as an Ofsted 'Good' provider, with 'Outstanding' learner behaviours and attitudes (April 2024). With four campuses across Kent and 4,000 students, we strive to equip the young people who study here with an inclusive and innovative education experience to enhance their future career prospects, which, as noted by Ofsted, is supported through our high-quality, industry standard facilities. Each and every staff member plays a key part in delivering the success of our learners' experience, and we want those who join our curriculum and support teams to share our passion in achieving this.

In addition to a competitive salary, you can expect the following as a Head of Curriculum at NKC:

  • 42 days' annual leave, plus bank holidays (pro rata for part-time contracts).
  • Enrolment onto the Teachers' Pension Scheme (TPS), one of the most generous in the country.
  • Access to free parking and a number of onsite facilities, including gyms, restaurants and coffee shops.
  • CPD and support from our in-house Teaching & Learning team, who coach, train, and guide our Lecturers through their teaching journey, from unqualified and new to teaching to qualified and experienced.
