  • Your role You will provide strategic leadership for Building Control and Technical Support teams, ensuring a resilient, high-performing and digitally enabled service that supports the city's growth ambitions. Acting as a key member of the Place senior leadership team, you will work closely with internal and external partners to deliver safe, compliant and innovative development. We want you to:
  • Lead and inspire a professional workforce, developing capability and high performance.
  • Provide strategic direction and leadership for Building Control services.
  • Promote the role of Building Control locally and nationally, working with key partners.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and statutory obligations in a changing regulatory environment.
  • Drive service transformation, innovation and digital enablement.
  • Manage service budgets, income and financial performance.
  • Work closely with Planning, Development and Investment to maximise growth opportunities.
  • Build strong relationships with elected members, developers, regulators and stakeholders.
  • Support governance, performance management and continuous improvement.
  • Your profile
  • Degree-level qualification and significant post-qualification experience
  • Extensive experience in Building Control, regulation or a related technical field.
  • Proven leadership of services, teams or complex programmes.
  • Strong technical knowledge of the regulatory and legislative environment.
  • Experience managing budgets, governance and risk.
  • Strong commercial awareness and understanding of service delivery models.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, including engagement with senior leaders and elected members.
  • Strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience developing and leading teams to achieve high performance.

    Degree-level qualification and significant post-qualification experience
  • Extensive experience in Building Control, regulation or a related technical field.
  • Proven leadership of services, teams or complex programmes.
  • Strong technical knowledge of the regulatory and legislative environment.
  • Experience managing budgets, governance and risk.
  • Strong commercial awareness and understanding of service delivery models.
