Full Job Description

The successful candidate will be professional, reliable and well-organised, with a supportive and approachable leadership style. They will be able to prioritise effectively, remain calm under pressure, and demonstrate a clear commitment to service improvement and patient-centred care. The post holder will undertake CT and General X-ray examinations, including theatre imaging and complex or urgent cases, while maintaining high diagnostic standards. They will interpret referral information and clinical requirements, select appropriate techniques and positioning, and adapt their approach according to patient condition, mobility and clinical complexity. You will act as an IR(ME)R Operator, ensuring exposures are justified, optimised and documented in line with regulations, local policies and radiation protection requirements. The role also includes administering IV contrast in accordance with Trust protocols and training, including maintaining an annual cannulation audit. As the senior radiographer on shift, you will support the team with safe clinical decision-making, prioritisation, patient flow and escalation of operational, staffing, capacity or safety concerns. You will provide clinical supervision, guidance and role modelling for Band 5 Radiographers, Assistant Practitioners, students and support staff. The role includes rota-based working, including nights, weekends, evenings, out-of-hours and on-call shifts as required., This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced HCPC-registered Diagnostic Radiographer to develop as a senior clinical practitioner, support safe operational flow, lead shifts, supervise junior colleagues and contribute to high-quality, patient-centred imaging services across Gloucestershire Hospitals.

The successful candidate will provide high-quality, safe and effective CT and General X-ray imaging services as part of a rotational role within the Radiology Directorate. This post is suited to a confident radiographer with strong clinical skills, a commitment to patient-centred care, and the ability to support operational flow, safe decision-making and team development during shifts. You will work as a senior clinical practitioner, applying advanced clinical skills and providing professional leadership during shifts. You will also contribute to governance, education, audit, quality improvement and service development, while supporting junior staff, students and trainees. This is not a training post and candidates must have relevant CT and Xray experience.,

  • BSC Hons Diagnostic Radiography or equivalent
  • HCPC registration as a Diagnostic Radiographer.
  • Evidence of ongoing CPD and professional portfolio.
  • Training in IV cannulation and contrast administration.
  • High-level clinical competence in CT and General X-ray.
  • Knowledge of radiation protection principles and IR(ME)R legislation.
  • Ability to work autonomously and make confident clinical decisions
  • Ability to act as shift lead or senior radiographer when required.
  • Ability to support induction and development of junior staff.
  • Understanding of infection prevention and control, health and safety, and safe working practice.
  • Awareness of people management processes, including wellbeing, escalation and professionalism
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback and support performance development
  • Post-qualification experience within an NHS Radiology department.
  • Experience supporting service delivery during rota-based working., Participation in audit, quality improvement or service evaluation.
  • Teaching, assessing or mentorship qualification, or equivalent experience.
  • Postgraduate CT qualification or equivalent experience.
