HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist

We have an exciting opportunity for two HCPC Registered Band 5 Biomedical Scientists within the Haematology and Blood Transfusion department, with one position based at Heartlands Hospital and one at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. We are seeking enthusiastic, highly motivated individuals to help deliver a first-class diagnostic service to our users. We are one of the largest acute hospital trusts in England, comprising four hospital sites: Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Heartlands Hospital, Good Hope Hospital, and Solihull Hospital. Supported by additional funding awarded to recognise our ongoing growth, our services continue to expand. In 2024, our new £45 million elective hub opened at Solihull Hospital, the Heartlands Treatment Centre became fully operational, and our clinical capacity grew significantly at both Good Hope and the QE. The department receives over one million requests annually, providing a 24-hour diagnostic and monitoring service. The laboratory is ISO 15189 and MHRA accredited, and is approved as an IBMS and military training facility. Additionally, the laboratory situated on the QEH site is the nominated Coagulation Laboratory for the West Midlands Regional Haemophilia Comprehensive Care Service, as well as a designated Major Trauma Centre. Main duties of the job Applicants will rotate through Haematology, Coagulation, and Blood Transfusion. The ideal candidate must be an HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist. You must have UK laboratory experience as a BMS, with a specialist interest in Haematology, underpinned by sound theoretical and practical knowledge. Further study, contribution to scientific posters and papers, and continuing professional development (CPD) are strongly encouraged and supported. Main Duties and Tasks: You will be responsible for performing the technical tasks to meet the needs of the laboratory service, in line with HCPC standards of proficiency. This includes analysis, technical validation, interpretive decisions, and reporting of samples to achieve efficient and effective patient care and resource management. You will be expected to work collaboratively within the laboratory team. You will be committed to providing a high standard of service to our patients and partake in the quality programme of the laboratory. You should have an understanding of legislation, regulation and the maintenance of compliance with ISO 15189:2022. After appropriate training you will be expected to participate in the departmental shift system which attracts AFC enhanced payments. Applicants are expected to work flexibly providing a 24/7 service that includes weekends and public holidays on a rotational basis, as well as participate in the out of hour's on-call service, as required, once fully trained.

• BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science or equivalent academic achievement that is ratified by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS)
• State registration with Health Professions Council (HPC)
• Evidence of continuing professional development and proficiency in accordance with HPC guidelines.

• Working towards completion of post registration specialist competency portfolio.
Experience Essential
• Experience of working in clinical laboratories.
• Experience of laboratory techniques and automation
