Haematology Clinical Fellow (obstetric haematology)

The post holder will have the opportunity to work with the Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust obstetric haematology team and the NIHR Blood Transfusion Research Unit (BTRU)

The obstetric haematology service at GSTT is recognised internationally with renowned expertise in the management of anaemia, immune thrombocytopenia, thrombosis, haemophilia, thrombophilia, myeloproliferative disease and sickle cell disease in pregnancy. The service is for patients who are either pregnant or planning to get pregnant.

The learning opportunities include gaining an understanding of how to develop an obstetric haematology service and the role of haematology in fetal medicine, maternal networks, management of haematological conditions in pregnancy, high-risk pregnancies and rare haematological diseases in pregnancy., To provide clinical input into the management of patients with obstetric haematology disorders. To participate in the review and development of the maternity network regarding haematological disease. To contribute to existing haematology pregnancy registries including the UK ITP pregnancy registry and contribute to the develop of new registry projects with the team. To promote best practice in patient blood management. To be involved in research to improve the management of patients with obstetric haematology disorders. To participate in clinical and other service activities with the object of ensuring a high standard of patient care. To participate in clinical governance activity, including clinical audit, clinical guideline and protocol development and clinical risk management. To participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training. Participate and integrate in the NIHR BTRU programme of research. Plan, manage and conduct an original research project and associated
activities, taking direction from their supervisor and other colleagues as appropriate. Regularly contribute to or write research articles at an international level for peer reviewed journals, book chapters, and reviews. Carry out collaborative projects with colleagues in partner institutions, and research groups, in accordance with supervisor's requirements.

The Trust consists of St Thomas' Hospital at Waterloo, including the Evelina Children's Hospital, Guy's Hospital at London Bridge and the Royal Brompton and Harefield.
