Full Job Description
This is a permanent post to provide strategic leadership and management for the Haematology, Blood Transfusion and Phlebotomy service across the UHB, as befitting a prestigious Teaching Hospital Laboratory Service.
The post holder will work closely with the Head of Service (Laboratory Clinical Director) and Director of Operations for Clinical Diagnostics and Therapeutics. They will have responsibility for the day to day management of the human, physical and information resources available in order to ensure the continuous improvement and delivery of a high-quality service, as required by service stakeholders, is provided. In addition, responsibilities extend to provision of specialist reference services to other hospitals across Wales and the rest of the UK.
The post covers UHW, UHL and Velindre sites and is responsible for the following services, Haematology, Blood Transfusion and Phlebotomy services, and extending to the provision of specialist laboratory services, Immunophenotyping, Haemostasis and Thrombosis, Stem Cell Processing Unit and Haemoglobinopathy to other UHBs in Wales and the UK.
The post holder is also responsible for ensuring the department works within a quality management framework in order to retain UKAS, MHRA, & HTA accreditation., As the Service Manager for the Haematology, Blood Transfusion and Phlebotomy services the post holder will have responsibility for managing all aspects of the delivery of the service and will be expected to support the teams in maintaining the exemplary high standard of quality and care which the service currently provides.
In doing so you will be a budget holder for the service ensuring that financial controls are established and maintained.
You will lead and manage the teams, within the scope of the policies and procedures of Cardiff and Vale University Health Board to ensure the performance and quality of their work is of the highest standards.
You will be overall responsible for the quality management of the department, ensuring the department works within a quality management framework in order to retain UKAS, MHRA, & HTA accreditation.
The post holder will work collaboratively with colleagues, the lab teams, Clinical Leads, Service Managers in Laboratory Medicine and the Clinical Board.
