Full Job Description
This role presents a fantastic opportunity for a motivated HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist to further develop their specialist expertise within the Haematology and Blood Transfusion section of a busy, friendly Blood Sciences department. The position is primarily based at Bedford Hospital, though the successful candidate will be required to contribute to a 24/7 shift rota across both Bedfordshire Hospital laboratory sites in line with service needs. The department is fully accredited to ISO 15189 standards and holds IBMS/HCPC training status. It is also one of a select number of organisations recognised by the National School of Healthcare Science for training in Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology, and Transfusion Science. A wide range of advanced instrumentation is in use, including the Beckman Coulter DxH900 and Automate 1200, IL ACL TOP 550 and 350, Grifols Erytra Eflexis analysers, and the Sebia Capillarys 3 Octa for haemoglobinopathy screening. The team is committed to ongoing service improvement, with a focus on expanding on-site testing, enhancing service integration, and fostering strong collaboration across the wider Pathology network.,
- Actively contribute to the daily operations of the Haematology and Blood Transfusion service, supporting both routine and technical tasks.
- Collaborate with specialist and senior Biomedical Scientists to deliver a high-quality, efficient service in line with the Quality Management System (QMS).
- Assist with implementing service improvements and changes as directed by senior staff or management, adapting to evolving needs.
- Ensure all work adheres strictly to UKAS accreditation standards, national and European legislation, and discipline-specific regulatory requirements.
- Support the training and development of support staff, promoting a collaborative and learning-focused team environment.
